How to make a Winter Wellness Tea to beat the cold and flu season

Throughout winter, teas can be helpful for preventing illness and providing symptomatic relief. Some teas can help boost the immune system, uplift energy, invigorate the body, and detoxify. Specific tea herbs can also help treat conditions such as cystitis, constipation, and blood pressure.
Herbal teas are specifically selected leaves, berries, peels, seeds, flowers, and roots of medicinal herbs. They are mostly caffeine free—except green tea and white tea. They can be used in their whole form, chopped, or ground up into powder form.
Herbal teas are also available in teabag form. However, these may contain filler herbs. The bags that they are in may even be bleached with harmful chemicals.
Certified organic tea and bags can assist as a quality indicator when buying tea.

Winter Wellness Tea Recipe

Winter Wellness Tea will help you beat this winter's cold and flu season! I specially formulated this blend of herbs to combat symptoms such as congestion, aches, and sore throat, providing comfort and restoration. If used as a preventative remedy, these herbs can also work to prevent the cold or flu altogether. I have not had a cold or the flu in over 5 years, and I do not receive the flu shot (which is my own personal choice).
Winter Wellness Tea Recipe:
Note: "Part" refers to your choice of measurement. It could be as small as a tablespoon or as large as a cup.
Instructions:
  1. Blend all ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Transfer to an airtight container. Keep away from direct sunlight and heat.
  3. To brew, use a heaping tablespoon per cup of hot water.
I like to use Manuka honey or other raw honey to sweeten. This provides even more medicinal benefits.
You can use the whole herbs or you can use the powdered form of the herbs. Whichever you choose, use that measurement to be consistent with the blending. You can blend whole/chopped herbs with powdered herbs, but adjust the measurements to not add too much of one particular herb.
Continue reading below for the benefits of each herb chosen, and why I picked these herbs for this blend.

When you try this tea, don't forget to let me know how you like it.

Stress, triggers and flare-up

I woke up this morning with ulcers on my scalp....for the first time in a very long time.

It has been a very stressful night.....first the alarm for flash flood warnings at 8:34 p.m..  Then the alarm for tornado warnings at 8:52 p.m. and then the flash flood warning blaring again shortly after at around 11:20 or so.  I lay awake for most of the night, just tossing and turning, listening to the sounds of the rain beating on the window panes, my joints aching.  I constantly move to avoid anything locking up.

To top it off, I turn the news on and there has been another mass shooting...this time in Las Vegas.  After checking to see if my friends who live there are safe, all I try to do after that is breathe.  I could feel my chest tighten.  My scalp has been itching for a bit and I can feel the raised bumps in different areas.  It's a good thing that my hair has started to grow in a little bit after shaving my head.  They won't be that noticeable, I guess.

A few ulcers are the least of my worries.
There just seems to be so much hate in the world.
So many countries still reeling from the devastation left from the recent hurricanes, and now more shootings.

Michael Jackson's song came to mind when I heard of the shooting.  May it be a reminder to all of us that we are in this together....in this thing called LIFE.
